P&O cruise No R717 sailed from Southampton on 1/10/2007 with Captain Ian Hutley in command. Ports of call were as follows:- Barcelona, Villefranche, Civitaveccia (for Rome), Naples, Palermo, Valencia, and Gibraltar.

Aurora. "Man over board" drill.

This "Man over board drill" by the crew of P&O's cruise ship Aurora, took place in Valencia harbour. Any fun-poking by me is tongue in cheek, as the reality is that was a serious training session with the crews repeating the techniques again and again until they had it right. Reassuringly. the very next drill, after this one, resulted in a first attempt retrieval.

Castles in Wales. Feb 2008

This album contains pictures of 3 different castles in Wales. They are Conwy, Caernarfon, and Bodelwydden (pronounced Boddle Withern). The latter is not a real castle, but a 19th century stately home. It is now used as a leisure hotel by Warner Breaks.

Portmeirion. Feb 2008

Portmeirion had only a handful of visitors, on this very cold and blustery Sunday morning in early February. This incredible village was the work of Clough William Ellis. He began work on it in 1926 and completed it in 1976, by which time he was over 90 years old. Portmeirion is recognisable to millions, who have never visited it, as the location for the 1960's TV show "The Prisoner"; which starred Patrick McGoohan who was frequently seen out on the estuary being chased by a giant-sized ball.

Germany. June 2005

This album is of a driving holiday in North-west Germany. We took the DFDS ferry from Harwich to Cuxhaven. The travel firm "Drive Alive" had pre-booked hotels for us from one to three nights in each place we requested. The photographs are principally of the Rhine and Mosel areas. There are also some of Bastogne, of "The Battle of the Bulge" fame, which was not far across the border in Belgium.
