Ah Lieh's Bukit Kinding's House first visit

My first visit to Uncle Ah Lieh's house built finely on the hill of Knding, near Chemor, Ipoh. It's a minimalist style that he adopted for his house. No decor. Simple plain white.I love the breeze, the animals e.g. wild monkeys, birds surrounding the vincinity.....amazing view too! Take a look at the colours of the sunset. Of course, the best 'view' to me is his Nissan FairLady. Such lovely fine car!

Kuok Foundation Undergrad Get-Together - 28 February 2009

Kuok Foundation has a get-togther for undergrads every year, and this year i don't want to miss my chance to attend again. I've missed every year except this and there were no regrets. As a postgrad in an undergrad event, I had the priviledge to sit at Table no.3 a.k.a. VIP table! I was with our new trustee - Dato Seri Ong Ka Ting and other advisors of the Foundation. This years get together was in Armada Hotel, started with Ice breaking games and memory master's lecture by a master himself and former receipient of KF, Lim Teck Hoe. I was sitting next to him! And what better way to network and find career opportunities from the best in their area in a prestigious, yet informal event.

I believe that this would be my last conference I'll be attending. Honestly, it was a very successful conference. I met loads of ppl and was esp impressed with one of the Austrian speakers which I had a lengthy chat with. Another was a lady from Monash who gave me a word of encouragement throughout. The dinner was excellent, but not for a bunch of unruly diners on my same table! Sigh...Malaysian kiasu-ness during dinner really pisses me off.

Chinese New Year 2008 - in KL - 8 Feb 2008

All of this year's CNY celebration is in KL, my dad's birthplace. We celebrated our 2nd day of CNY at Sunway Pyramid and we've spotted a real cherry blossom tree which is absolutely stunning. At night, my mum's family came down from various locations to Overseas Restaurant in Jalan Imbi to celebrate CNY. The food is well presented and delicious even if they were bulk-cooked. KL was really quiet (as usual) and the roads were so clear.

Lab mate farewell dinner

Tonight, all of our Toxicology Lab resident RAs and postgraduate students, together with their dates, went to Chop & Steak at Serdang to celebrate our January babies - Valen and Moe as well as Izati's departure form our lab. We all had a great time eating western food, in which to me was surprisingly delicious but cheap. Everyone had a tremendously great time talking crap and nothing scientific for once!!

Parent's 30th Anniversary on Xmas day 2007

This year's christmas also coincide with my parent's 30th year of marriage! Mum opened our Puchong apartment for guess and relatives on Christmas eve. On Christmas day, we went to Paddington Pancake House in the Curve for our parent's anniversary. It's all about being together with your family on Christmas day. That's all that matters

Parents, Eric, Ying Ying and I were at the Pavillion at Jalan Bukit Bintang for our first preview of the megamall. Well, I did some shopping, but my parents prefer to sit and eat somewhere. The christmas decoration is quite nice esp. the wide stairs heading down the centre court makes the entrance soooo grand. One of the grandous and most spacious shopping mall in Malaysia.

All mycologist (including me) from all over the world gathered at ParkRoyal Hotel, Batu Ferringhi to present their paper, network, chit-chat, eat and sun-bath. It's my second conference as a Ph.D. student but the first time presenting a poster in a international conference such as this. I love the hotel and the beach. Beautiful and picturisque....

Chris, Callie, I at Bavarian Bierhaus, The Curve

Bavarian Bierhaus is a german restaurant serving extra long sausages, loads of pork and nice smooth beer. The food is expensive, but the portion serves at least 2 pax. The ambience is great, but they have rather high tables and stools that make short petite girls like me struggling to push my seat in. Today was Chris Thoo's belated birthday, and we both still want to celebrate for him.

Bangkok - with Jo Nie - 13-15 October 2007

This is my and Jo Nie's first trip to Bangkok, Thailand. It is sooo colourful in terms of culture and people. The city reminds me of old Georgetown, Penang. This place has more foreigners than locals (?) and to me, this looked true. The tut-tut was a death-defying moment for me; the food is dirty-ly delicious; the people authentically and extraordinary friendly (not kidding!); and very safe indeed for backpackers like us. I would say this is the 'land of smiles' and no other country is comparably friendlier than Thailand.

Aikido Camp at Port Dickson (Bayu Beach) - 8-9 Sept 2007

This is the second time Seishinkai Aikido had their camp at Port Dickson. The beach cleaner and more beautiful than Ancasa (the first trip). Though the attendance was lesser than previously, we actually had the same amount of fun. Brian fetched Jong Yang and I here to PD. We've gone to his house in PD too....thanks to his mum, we've got great home cooked food.

An Indian festival in front of my apartment

This Indian festival was taken just in front of our apartment in Puchong. The festival involves a float car with 3 Indian Monks offering prayers and 'fu' to their devotees who crowd the float. It was amazing to see the devotees throwing coconuts to the floor and offering free drinks to on-lookers too. This is the second time I;ve seen this but this is the first time coincidently that my camera was with me. Pictures include my mum's god-child: Ying-Ying

Mount Kinabalu Climb!

My first climb to the peak of Mount Kinabalu, Sabah. It has the most marvelous sunrise view ever...nothing beats it's tough climb up too! My camera batteries died down due to excessive coldness and had no pics of my own but depended on friends for my shots....
